Massage with a Medical Focus

Therapeutic Massage, in conjunction with an established treatment plan, is a valuable and effective tool for many situations and conditions. Massage for a medical condition requires advanced training, and the therapists at Rē have the training necessary to address many medical conditions.  As with any treatment, please make sure that Therapeutic Massage is appropriate and that it is not contraindicated for your condition.

Although several states license Massage Therapists, and the field of Massage Therapy is covered under some health insurance plans, in Oklahoma massage is typically not covered. Because of this, Health insurance rarely pays for massage in our state. Due to the unequal levels of training throughout the state, referring professionals cannot make a blanket referral for Massage Therapy.

The American Massage Therapy Association has a press release pertaining to the definition of medical massage, which is on our news page.  Xerlan and Christopher have training in massage for the stroke survivor, Parkinson's patient, the emphysema patient, various chronic pain maladies, and started a massage program at Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Tulsa. They have a commitment to working with physicians, physical therapists, occupational and speech therapists, and helping improve the rehabilitation and treatment of many medical situations.

Are you skeptical about ‘alternative’ therapy ?

You should be. This is a concern because of the lack of regulation of Alternative and Complementary Therapies in Oklahoma. No standard has been set for educational requirements or definatlve scope of practice, which can be dangerous to the general public. Unfortunately, there are some massage practitioners who consider themselves “alternative” or “healers” who think they can work on or heal any disorder, and actually encourage people never to return to their Physicians. “Complementary” is the term used by most professionals who are working to bridge the gap and between conventional medicine and unconventional treatments. Alternative and Complementary Medicine Practitioners are helping to re-invent primary care in America today. This is mainly due the public’s concern of the percieved hazards of conventional medicine, combined with the desire for more autonomy and empowerment in their pursuit of wellness. Please join us for a learning opportunity. Your office or ours! We would like to schedule an in-service for you and your staff so that you can all become more familiar with the benefits of massage, how, when, and why to refer patients for therapeutic massage, how to find out if your clients are receiving “alternative therapies”, and of course the BIG questions about billings for therapeutic massage.
