Nuad BoRarn
Nuad Bo-Rarn  -Thai massage dubbed “lazy mans yoga” is a form of massage preformed on a mat on
the floor. Practicing this art on the floor allows movements that are not practical or possible on a
table as well as the most effective use of the practitioner’s body weight for transmission of force,
pressure or energy. Since soft tissue manipulation is a subordinate part of Thai Massage, the client
remains fully clothed. Loose fitting, light clothing is most suitable as thick fabrics make the work
more difficult. The work of Nuad Bo-Rarn consists of pressure on energy lines and points, and a
variety of stretching movements. An effective treatment of Nuad Bo-Rarn can be done in one hour
to an hour and a half, though the ideal length for a full program is longer
(from two and a half to three hours)

The energy lines of Nuad Bo-Rarn, called ‘Sen’ are similar to the meridian lines of Chinese Acupressure; however, the meridians follow energy flow with specific organs, where Sen follows the form of the body. Although there are 72,000 Sen in theory, only 10 serve as the foundation in practice, pressure is extended on these lines and points with palms of the hand, thumbs and feet. The stretching movements facilitated in Nuad Bo-Rarn effect the entire body to increase flexibility, to release deep and superficial tension and open the body to allow its energy to flow more freely. The client remains passive during the stretching movements resulting in an opening of the body which leaving one in a state of energized relaxation.

Nuad Bo'Rarn is practiced very slowly, with an emphasis on both the practitioner and client being in a heightened or meditative state of consciousness. Nuad Bo'Rarn is recognized to be a practical application of the Buddhist concept of 'Metta,' or loving kindness, and  demonstrates the 'Four Divine States' of mind that are discussed in Buddhism: compassion, loving kindness, vicarious joy and equanimity. This form of healing work allows for the fulfillment of the Buddhist teaching of bringing higher ideals into everyday life and activities. Furthermore, this style of healing work has always placed an emphasis on the mind/body connection and has been utilized as a tool in the treatment of physical, emotional,  and spiritual disorders.

Stretching and extending the range of motion of the client'sbody are an important part of Thaimassage. The stretching often takes the form of ‘double’ or ‘assisted’ Yoga. Once the client has relaxed deeply, the practitioner, with a heightened sensitivity, stretches the client to his or her comfortable limit. A vital aspect of the theory underlying Thai Medicine is the importance placed on the abdominal region. According to Thai Medicine, all the major energy pathways of the body have their origin in the abdominal region in the vicinity of the navel. Therefore, the abdominal massage is a crucial component of the healing benefit of this medicine

The benefits of Nuad Bo-Rarn are far reaching, and can be effective for many different people, from athletes to the elderly. It can induce deep relaxation, release points of tension, increase flexibility/range of motion, improve circulation, strengthen internal organs, relieve pain and promote inner peace.
